This GBS member’s event will begin at Noon with lunch served from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. with socializing until 4:00 p.m. in the Fountain View Room which is on the lobby level. The Sheraton is located at 301 East North Water Street, Chicago.

On Tuesday, December 9 at 9:00 a.m., a CFD Promotional Ceremony will be held at McCormick Place, Grand Ballroom. Please let us know if you would like to attend, all are welcome. LODD family members; Lt. Martin Doherty and Eng. Teddy Johnson are amongst those being honored that day.

A tradition of an annual tree lighting started by the CPD at their headquarters, which is now shared with the CFD, has always included GBS Christmas ornaments. We now have the opportunity to personalize those ornaments. If you would like to include an ornament with your beloved firefighter/pm’s name included, mail it to our address by 12/5 or plan to attend the event, please RSVP by Friday December 12th. The date of the tree lighting will be Tuesday, December 16th beginning at 12:00 p.m.

On Saturday December 20th, the paver installation at CFD Fallen Firefighter/ Paramedic Memorial Park of FF Walter Patmon Jr. will take place at 11:00 AM followed by the Badge Dedication for FF Walter Patmon Jr., and Lt. Patrick Hannon at Quinn Training Facility. If you plan to attend, please RSVP since weather may be a factor that day and you will be notified if there are any last minute changes concerning parking, etc. Please keep these families in your thoughts and prayers.

With much excitement we are happy to announce, our new website is up and running. Thank you to Beth Kelly for all your hard work and time on creating this. Please visit us at http://cfdgoldbadgesociety.org.

This Saturday (December 6) will be Local 2 Annual Toy Drive and Parade! Thank you to everyone whom has donated toward the Local 2 Toy Drive! For over 10 years, we have been always fortunate to raise enough money with donations given directly from our GBS members to purchase bike helmets without using GBS funds. Though economy is tough for all, the tough economy only means there are all the more needy children. Our goal is to be able to donate 100 helmets to this truly wonderful family event. If you would like to donate, please send to our address with bike helmets in memo. Also, community service hours will be available if needed the day of event.  We will gather at Local 2 to help beginning at 8:00 a.m. The parade will step off at 10:00 a.m. for the Electrician Union Hall located at 600 West Washington. Paid parking available located behind the hall. This is where all bicycles, helmets, and other toys will be presented to Catholic Charities. This is a wonderful family event to kick off the Holiday Season. There is still time to donate for this worthy cause, as much as we would like to continue this next year, donations are low this year and would need to reconsider this in the future if we are still able to donate if unable to meet cost of helmets.

It is time to renew our committees.  They consist of Scholarship, Monthly Mass Hosts, Memorial Park, CFD Family Day Picnic, and new this year – CFD VS CPD Charity Baseball Game.  If interested in joining any of these committees, please let us know.

Also, the GBS will be celebrating our 24th anniversary this upcoming February, which will bring membership dues as well as our general elections. Board positions include president, vice president, treasurer, corresponding secretary, recording secretary, program director, and historian. If interested in any of these positions, please contact us at this address or Eileen.

As we are in the process of updating the GBS’s membership, we are asking if you have any new information that you would like us to have i.e. an updated e-mail, address, phone number, or any other contact information that we would need to contact members, please let us know at this address or contact Eileen via cell number.

As much as we like to include any events, updates etc. through the newsletter, many come up through the month and we would like to keep the membership updated the best that we can. Any help on this matter, would be appreciated.
