March 2015 Newsletter

March 2015
Dear Gold Badge Members and Friends,

GBS member, Margie King passed away on February 7, 2015. Margie is the wife of John and the sister in law of FF/PM Patrick King who died in the line of duty on February 11, 1998. Please keep Margie and her family in your prayers.

Thank you to all who helped celebrate GBS 24th Anniversary! A great time was had by all. Thank you to Vicki Waliczek for planning this wonderful event.

This month the CFD Monthly Mass will be celebrating St. Patrick and St. Joseph on Sunday March 15th at Holy Family Church at 8:30 a.m. Any soda bread and other goodies would be appreciated by Fr Mulcrone, especially soda bread.

On Saturday March 21st, Badge Dedication for Capt. Herbie Johnson at Quinn Training Facility will take place at 1:00 PM followed by the the paver installation at CFD Fallen Firefighter/ Paramedic Memorial Park of Capt. Herbie Johnson. For members outside the Johnson family, if you plan to attend, please RSVP since weather may be a factor that day and you will be notified if there are any last minute changes concerning parking, etc. Please keep the Johnson Family in your thoughts and prayers.

February is a very busy time in the Gold Badge Society. As we celebrated our 24th Anniversary, we usually have board elections. Positions include president, vice president, treasurer, corresponding secretary, recording secretary, program director, and historian. At our most recent meetings we have been discussing how we may better support and serve each other. We have also been looking at ways we can either expand or consolidate to improve our organization.

Therefore our biannual election was put on hold. The fact that we have always called it an election has been confusing to some members. We have never had more than one member interested in a position at the same time and we have never had positions still available at this late date. Please consider attending our meetings and call or write to express your concerns and hopefully an interest in serving on the board.

As we are in the process of updating the GBS’s membership, we are asking if you have any new information that you would like us to have i.e. an updated e-mail, address, phone number, or any other contact information that we would need to contact members, please let us know at this address or contact Eileen via cell number.

As much as we like to include any events, updates etc. through the newsletter, many come up throughout the month. In recent months, there have been numerous times that we have received information, last minute, that personally pertains to individual families without adequate time to contact the family. Please share your phone number and email address. Any help on this matter, would be appreciated.
