Dear Gold Badge Members and Friends,

The CFD Picnic 13th Annual Family Day is on Sunday August 9th. This is a wonderful event for all to enjoy this beautiful park with family, old and new friends.

We will be remembering our friend and founding committee member Lt. John Leonard during the family blessing beginning at 11:30 a.m. whom is missed dearly with picnic favorite Jim Nesci of Cold Blooded Creatures following blessing at 12:15 pm.

Thank you to CFD Bravest and Finest for a fun filled night at US Cellular for the Annual Classic Baseball Game on Wednesday July 29thGreat job to Josephine Blackmon whom hit it out of the park with the 1st pitch!!

Thank you to all volunteers who helped throughout the event.

On Thursday August 13th, Candidate Paramedic Graduation at 2:00 p.m. held at the Public Safety Headquarters located at 3510 S. Michigan Ave. All are welcome, if panning on attending please RSVP by Monday August 10th at this address or Eileen to secure parking for this event.

On Saturday August 15th from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.mthe Chatham community and the entire Chicago Fire Department is invited to get together in Sidney Brown Memorial Park between 85th and 86th Streets, just east of St. Lawrence. They will be celebrating the life of the Sidney Brown whom gave his life in the line of duty on August 9th, 1983. Re-dedication of Brown Park and unveiling of plans for a memorial site including other fallen African American Fire Fighters who have given their lives in the line of duty, including, Acting Lieutenant John Jackson, Fireman Hodd Bond, EMT Jesse Edwards, FF Sidney Brown, FF Michael A Talley, FF James E Hill, FF Kelvin L Anderson, ADFC Jessie F Stewart, FF Anthony E Lockhart, FF Eugene W Blackmon, Lt L.C. Merrell, FF/PM Corey Ankum, and FF Walter Patmon Jr. The Chicago African American Fire Fighters League will present a program in honor of these men; the families of Sidney Brown and the others will be venerated; the Tuskegee Airmen will be present; there will be entertainment; raffles; prizes; Brown Park T-shirts available for purchase; and free soft drinks and water. Pull out your picnic baskets and portable grills!

Through the cooperation of the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation, there will be an opportunity for survivors of fallen firefighters from the State of Illinois, to get acquainted, support each other, and share some good times. It will be held on ThursdaySeptember 10th in Carol Stream. This is an adults only retreat for parents, widowed, siblings, and children. For further information, please contact Eileen.

On Sunday September 19th, the International Association of Firefighters will have their annual memorial held in Colorado Springs, CO with them remembering many of our Chicago Fallen Firefighters/Paramedics. Safe travels all whom are traveling and please know that all of them are in our thoughts and prayers.

On Sunday September 27th, the 33nd Annual Rosehill Memorial Ceremony will begin at 10:00 a.m. at the monument of the CFFU Local 2 at Rosehill Cemetery, 5800 North Ravenswood Avenue.

*Saturday October 3rd, our friends at the Fire Museum of Greater Chicago will hold a fundraiser at 115 Bourbon Street.

Calling All Golfers!!!

There are different charity golf outings this year in Illinois to benefit the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation. They are working on having at least one in every state of the Union, and they have been quite successful. For further information on how to participate by either golfing or donating, please visit www.firehero.org. There may be one in your area. The NFFF has done so much to support CFD duty deaths families in recent years and they deserve our support.

The Gold Badge Society members meeting is held following the CFD Monthly Mass in the basement of Holy Family Church.

A friendly reminder, you do not need to be Catholic to attend the CFD monthly Mass and fellowship that follows. Also, you do not need to attend mass and fellowship in order to attend GBS meetings. The meeting starts about 10:00 a.m. (depending on the level of socializing), these meetings generally last for about an hour and there is always someone looking to go out to lunch afterwards. Attending meetings is the best way to keep informed and we are always open to fresh faces and new input. These next few meetings will be important so hoping you can attend.
