Dear Gold Badge Members and Friends, 

GBS member, Janice Watroba passed away recently. Janice is the wife of LODD FM Walter Watroba whom died on November 22, 1976. Please keep Janice and her family in your prayers.

On Friday, July 8th, (1d-2), LODD Anniversary Bell Ringing and lost Proclamation presentation to the family of Lt. Edward Moffett of Truck Co. 3, at 8:00 a.m. held at Engine 42’s quarters located at 55 W. Illinois. Lt. Moffett and several other Chicago Firefighters died following a collapse at 419 W. Superior on July 9, 1943. CFD & Local 2 will be presenting a lost memorial, found in South Carolina, to the family of Lt. Moffett. Keeping the family of Lt. Moffett in our thoughts. All are welcome.

Also on Friday, July 8th, the CFD is hosting a Promotional Ceremony held at Navy Pier at 7:00 p.m. Please RSVP to Eileen by Tuesday, July 5th.

On Saturday, July 9th ,(2e-3), 30th LODD Anniversary Bell Ringing for Engr. Thomas P. O’Donovan at 8:00 a.m. held at Engine 107’s quarters located at 1101 S. California Ave. Keeping Jim, Eileen, and the entire O’Donovan family in our thoughts. All are welcome.

On Wednesday, July 13th16th Annual CFD vs CPD Charity Baseball Game @ U.S. Cellular Field 7:00 p.m. Tickets are available for $5.00, please contact Ted at this address, 708.979.5317 or please check our website to purchase. This is a wonderful event for all ages!! Tickets will also be available in Lot B before the game for $10.00. Volunteers are needed. Please contact Ted if can volunteer or need tickets.

It has been decided that along with honoring FF/PM Fidel Serrano and FF Daniel Capuano at the game on July 13, the teams are also inviting the families of those who have been honored in the past.  Special seating will be available for you in the scout seats.

As in the past, we ask that you gather at the main entrance (media entrance); there are metal detectors, at 6:00 p.m. to be escorted to your seats.  We will provide either nametags or wrist bands for access to the seating.

On Sunday July 17th ,(1b-3), Local 2 Picnic at a new location of Millers Meadows Forest Preserves, located on Roosevelt Road east of 1st Avenue; ½ mile south of I290 and 1 ½ miles north of I55.

*Saturday, August 20th , 2nd Annual Picnic at Brown Park located at 634 E. 86th St. from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.(2d-1) This picnic will celebrate the neighborhood of Chatham this year as well as recognizing the family of CFD Sidney Brown and families of the other 12 African American Firefighters who lost their lives in the line of duty since Brown’s death on August 9, 1983.

*Saturday, September 10th, a gathering for GBS families is being organized at the CFD Fallen Firefighter/Paramedic Memorial Park. More information will follow when finalized.

There is a charity golf outing this year in Illinois to benefit the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation. They are working on having at least one in every state of the Union, and they have been quite successful. For further information on how to participate by either golfing or donating, please visit There may be one in your area. The NFFF has done so much to support CFD duty deaths families in recent years and they deserve our support.
