Dear Gold Badge Members and Friends, 

Thank you to CFD Bravest and CPD Finest for a fun filled yet rainy night at US Cellular for the Annual Classic Baseball Game on Wednesday, July 13thThank you to all volunteers who helped throughout the event especially Ted Johnson whom took the lead in coordinating the GBS part of this great event. Job well done!! The double rainbow was spectacular!! CFD 1 CPD 0 with the rainout.

On Friday, August 5th (2d-2), Alderman Matt O’Shea and the community of the 19th Ward will be dedicating the street of 105th and Hamlin “Daniel V. Capuano Ave” in honor of FF PM Dan Capuano at 3:00 p.m. All are welcome.

On Wednesday, August 10th (1e-3), the 100 Club of Chicago and the Chicago Cubs invite you to join them for Firefighter Appreciation Night. Each ticket to this 7:05 pm game against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim includes a special Cubs firefighter baseball cap! In addition, a portion of net proceeds will be donated to the 100 Club of Chicago. Come show your support for Chicagoland’s Bravest! For more info or to purchase tickets, visit:

Through the cooperation of the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation, there will be an opportunity for survivors of fallen firefighters from the State of Illinois, to get acquainted, support each other, and share some good times. It will be held on ThursdaySeptember 8th (3e-4), in Carol Stream. This is an adults only retreat for parents, widowed, siblings, and children. For further information, please contact Eileen.

On Sunday, September 17th(3c-1),the International Association of Firefighters will have their annual memorial held in Colorado Springs, CO with them remembering our Chicago Fallen Firefighters/Paramedics especially FF Dan Capuano. Safe travels all whom are traveling and please know that all of them are in our thoughts and prayers.

On Sunday, September 25th (2a-1), the 34nd Annual Rosehill Memorial Ceremony will begin at 10:00 a.m. at the monument of the CFFU Local 2 at Rosehill Cemetery, 5800 North Ravenswood Avenue.

The Chicago Axemen Illinois Chapter 1, working with many great businesses, is raising money for the EMWQ Retirees’, Widows’ and Children’s Assistance Fund. They will be having “Cruise Night” every 3rd Wednesday of every month. Aug.17th, Sept. 21st, and Oct.19th located at Mill Creek Center 12902-12960 S. Lagrange Road. *Saturday, August 20th 2nd Annual Picnic at Brown Park located at 634 E. 86th St. from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.(2d-1) This picnic will celebrate the neighborhood of Chatham this year as well as recognizing the family of CFD Sidney Brown and families of the other 12 African American Firefighters who lost their lives in the line of duty since Brown’s death on August 9, 1983.

*Saturday, September 10th, a gathering for GBS families is being organized at the CFD Fallen Firefighter/Paramedic Memorial Park. More information will follow when finalized.

*September 22nd, 50th Anniversary of 100 Club of Chicago. This wonderful event directly benefits the mission of the 100 Club~ to provide for the surviving spouses and dependents of the first responders who lost their lives in the line of duty. This includes federal, state, county, and local officers, firefighters, and EMS professionals stationed working in and out of Cook and Lake Counties. For more information please go to

There is a charity golf outing this year in Illinois to benefit the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation. They are working on having at least one in every state of the Union, and they have been quite successful. For further information on how to participate by either golfing or donating, please visit There may be one in your area. The NFFF has done so much to support CFD duty deaths families in recent years and they deserve our support.
