December 2016
Dear Gold Badge Members and Friends,

GBS member, Pat O’Boyle Pemberton passed away on November 12th. Pat is the widow of LODD Lt. Thomas O’Boyle whom died on September 26th, 1995 and wife of Patrick Pemberton. Please keep Pat and her family in your prayers. Her bright smile will be missed dearly!

Saturday December 3rdLocal 2 Annual Toy Drive and Parade! For over 10 years, we have been always fortunate to raise enough money with donations given directly from our GBS members to purchase bike helmets without using GBS funds. This year we will not donating the helmets, but if still would like to donate, all donations can be sent directly to Chicago Fire Fighters Union Local 2 at 440 West 43rd Street Chicago, 60609 Attn: Tim O’Brien. GBS will still have members representing our organization with helping at this event. Please attend if you can. The parade will step off at 10:00 a.m. for the Electrician Union Hall located at 600 West Washington. Paid parking available located behind the hall. This is where all bicycles, helmets, and other toys will be presented to Catholic Charities. This is a wonderful family event to kick off the Holiday Season.

A tradition of an annual tree lighting started by the CPD at their headquarters, which is now shared with the CFD, has always included GBS Christmas ornaments. We now have the opportunity to personalize those ornaments. If you would like to include an ornament with your beloved firefighter/pm’s name included, mail it to our address by 12/4, or plan to attend the event. The tree lighting ceremony for Fire and Police Headquarters will take place Monday, December 12th at 12:00 p.m.  Gold Badge Society Members and their families are welcome to come out and trim the tree with their ornaments beginning at 10:00 a.m.  The event will be held at the Public Safety Building – 3510 S. Michigan Avenue, in the Multipurpose Room on the 1st Floor.

One year anniversary Ceremonial Bell Ringing for FF PM Dan Capuano on Wednesday, December 14th, at 8:00 am, Engine 72’s Quarters located at 7974 S. South Chicago Ave. All are welcome to attend. Please keep Julie, Amanda, Andrew, Nick, Mike, Jackie, many other family members and friends in your thoughts and prayers.

As we are always in the process of updating the GBS’s membership, we are asking if you have any new information that you would like us to have i.e. an updated e-mail, address, phone number or any other contact information that we would need to contact members, please let us know at this address or contact Eileen via cell number.

As much as we like to include any events, updates etc. through the newsletter, many come up through the month and we would like to keep the membership updated the best that we can. Any help on this matter, would be appreciated.
