February 2015
Dear Gold Badge Members and Friends,

GBS Member Mary Quinn passed away on January 8th. Mary was the wife of Lt. William Quinn whom died in the Line of Duty on 2.13.1971. Please keep Mary and her family in your prayers.

GBS Friend and Supporter Lt. John Leonard HL20 passed away on January 19th. John was a dear friend to us and was always here when we needed him especially from day one for the CFD Picnic. He could always be found behind the scenes at the grill. Truth be told, this day would not be possible without his dedication and skills. He will be sorely missed.

There will be a Bell Ringing Ceremony for the 30th Anniversary of LODD for Capt. Ald. Matt O’Shea will be holding a dedication for Patrick King and Anthony Lockhart at the King Lockhart Memorial Park located at 106th and Western on Thursday, February 12th, at 9:00 am. There will be a dedication of a statue, the final piece to the park. All are welcome.

The Gold Badge Society 24th Anniversary Party will be held on Sunday, February 15th, at Noon at the Polo Cafe, 3322 S. Morgan. This is a Gospel Brunch with live organ music and singing. Cost is $18, including a combination plate, tax, and tip. Combination plate includes baked crème brûlée, french toast medallions, seasonal vegetable frittata, crispy bacon and grilled pork sausage, Bridgeport potatoes, fresh cut fruit and berries. This month or so is a very busy time in the Gold Badge Society. As we celebrate our 24th Anniversary, an anniversary luncheon is planned as well as many other areas to help progress and continue to move forward. Board elections are up this month, positions include president, vice president, treasurer, corresponding secretary, recording secretary, program director, and historian.

It is time to renew our committees as well. They consist of Scholarship, Monthly Mass Hosts, Memorial Park, CFD Family Day Picnic, and new this year – CFD VS CPD Charity Baseball Game.

If interested in joining the board or any of these committees, please let us know.

Not only does February mark our anniversary it is also the time that annual member dues of $10 are owed. Remember, if you are under 21 or over 65 you may waives dues but please inform us that you would like to be considered or remain a member. Dues and/or notification of waiver of dues in writing may be mailed to the address on the left or may contact us at cfdgoldbadge@aol.com.

As we are in the process of updating the GBS’s membership, we are asking if you have any new information that you would like us to have i.e. an updated e-mail, address, phone number, or any other contact information that we would need to contact members, please let us know at this address or contact Eileen via cell number.

As much as we like to include any events, updates etc. through the newsletter, many come up throughout the month. In recent months, there have been numerous times that we have received information, last minute, that personally pertains to individual families without adequate time to contact the family. Please share your phone number and email address. Any help on this matter, would be appreciated.

The meeting starts about 10:00 a.m. (depending on the level of socializing), these meetings generally last for about an hour and there is always someone looking to go out to lunch afterwards.
