Wishing everyone a joyous Christmas Season!
Chicago Fire Department & Gold Badge Family has been cordially been invited to participate in the Superintendent & Commissioner’s Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony on December 13, 2017, at Public Safety Headquarters located at 3510 S. Michigan Ave beginning at 11:00 a.m.
Please join in assisting the Gold Badge & Gold Star Families in wrapping donated gifts and writing cards to families of fallen members. A tradition of an annual tree lighting started by the CPD at their headquarters, which is now shared with the CFD, has always included GBS Christmas ornaments. We now have the opportunity to personalize those ornaments. If you would like to include an ornament with your beloved firefighter/pm’s name included, mail it to our address by 12/9th, or plan to attend the event.
Captain Tony Ferenzi of Eng. 50 is working on creating a memorial to honor those who died in the line of duty from the Mickelberry explosion on February 7, 1968. This includes; Capt John J Fischer, FM Charles D Bottger, FM Edward Leifker, and FM Thomas Collins. This coming February 7th will mark the 50th anniversary. We have been asked to help locate family members, friends and coworkers to make them aware of these plans.
We are not being asked to bake for the December meeting but hoping to see everyone during this Christmas Season at the CFD monthly mass at 8:30 and GBS monthly meeting following mass on Sunday Dec. 17th at Holy Family Church.
As we are always in the process of updating the GBS’s membership, we are asking if you have any new information that you would like us to have i.e. an updated e-mail, address, phone number or any other contact information that we would need to contact members, please let us know at this address or contact Eileen via cell number.
As much as we like to include any events, updates etc. through the newsletter, many come up through the month and we would like to keep the membership updated the best that we can. Any help on this matter, would be appreciated.
With the Christmas season fast approaching, please consider Amazon. It’s one of the most widely used websites in the world.
